Scholars will identify similes and metaphors within a poem and analyze the significance of their use. They will then analyze how poets use figurative language to enhance their message by reading poems that use a simile and metaphor.

Scholars will demonstrate their understanding of simile, metaphor, and personification through completion of a mini-assessment.

Rhyme Scheme &  Poetic Structure Part 2

 

Scholars will define, identify, and analyze the use of rhyme scheme in a poem to create meaning and significance. They will then create original poems using specific schemes. 

 

  

 

 

Quiz 2

Scholars will demonstrate their understanding of alliteration, onomatopoeia, and rhyme scheme by taking the weekly quiz.

 

 

Elegy

 

Scholars will identify and define the elements of an elegy and analyze this for its structure and use of poetic devices. They will then create their own original elegies. 

 

 

Ode

 

Scholars will identify, define and analyze the elements of an ode for its structure and use of poetic devices in a poetry paragraph analysis. They will then create their own ode. 

 

 

Concrete Poems

 

Scholars will identify, define the elements of a concrete poem, and analyze for their meaning and form by writing a paragraphy analysis. They will then create orginal concrete poems. 

 

 

 

Quiz 3

 

Scholars will demonstrate their understanding of elegies, odes and concrete poems. 

 

 

 

Unit Assessment 

Scholars will analyze and interpret poems for their use of figurative language, poetic devices, meaning, and mood on the final Unit Assessment. 

 

  

 

 

Select, Revise & Create 1

Scholars will select, revise, and create original poems for their poetry anthologies. 

 

  

 

 

Final Assessment

Scholars will analyze and interpret poems for their use of figurative language, poetic devices, meaning, and mood on the final Unit assessment.
